Surrounding upland is privately owned and is subject to logging. The upland forest is a young black cherry, sugar maple, yellow birch forest. In between the wetland and the upland is a transitional zone of Vaccinium myrtilloides-Pteridium / Polytrichum hummock community. Downstream is a small patch of Hypericum densiflorum (see CVWR.17). Upstream is another small patch of Hypericum in the old beaver pond.;Mid-successional area between two breached beaver ponds. Somewhat fragmented, with small openings along the old drainage (Carex scoparia, Scirpus cyperinus). Cleared by beaver but there is no current beaver sign.
Representativeness
This is a small patch of Spiraea compared to the stand we sampled at Beaver Dam Run and to the ones we have observed in the southern part of the valley.
